U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg says America’s constriction sites need a little more diversity. During a recent National Association of Counties conference, Mayor Pete declared that “everyone in the hardhats” should look like they come from the neighborhood they’re servicing.

During the conference, Secretary Buttigieg said that America needs to “build a workforce that reflects the community.”
“We have heard way too many stories from generations past of infrastructure where you’ve got neighborhoods–often a neighborhood of color–that finally sees the project come to them, but everyone in the hardhats on that project looking like–uh, uh–you know, doing the good paying jobs don’t look like they came from anywhere near the neighborhood,” Buttigieg said. “You can build community wealth that will help close wealth gaps in this country, if we can tear down those barriers.”
