United Airlines surprised some frequent flyers this week when they announced their plan to have 50% of all pilots be “women or people of color” in the next decade; a move many called “frightening.”
“Our flight deck should reflect the diverse group of people on board our planes every day. That’s why we plan for 50% of the 5,000 pilots we train in the next decade to be women or people of color,” posted the company on Twitter.
“By 2030, we plan to train 5,000 pilots through United Aviate Academy,” states the video. “We plan for 50% of admitted students to be women or people of color.”
