Eccentric New York City artist Scott LoBaido took a stand against the latest city regulation in a way only a true New Yorker could, staging a unique protest by hurling slices of pizza over the gate of City Hall, labeling his action as the “New York Pizza Party.” The entire demonstration was captured on camera and shared on Twitter on Monday afternoon.
The protest was aimed at a newly drafted rule by the city’s Department of Environmental Protection. The regulation could require NYC pizza restaurants using traditional wood- and coal-fired ovens to slash their emissions by up to 75%. LoBaido, along with numerous restaurant owners, believes this new mandate could drastically alter the signature taste of New York City pizza and potentially drive several establishments out of business.
In a fiery tirade captured at the start of the video, LoBaido vented his frustrations, stating, “The woke-ass idiots who run this city are doing everything in their power to destroy it.” He expressed multiple grievances against the city administrators, encompassing a broad range of issues, including failing schools, preferential treatment of illegal immigrants over New York City teachers, and a disturbing rise in violent crime.
Drawing inspiration from an iconic event in American history, LoBaido announced, “You’ve heard of the Boston Tea Party…This is the New York Pizza Party.” And with that, he proceeded to launch a culinary bombardment over the City Hall gate.
The provocative protest came to a head when members of the New York Police Department (NYPD) confronted LoBaido, although it’s unclear whether or not the artist was arrested for his actions.
