Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot deflected nearly all criticism directed towards her during a recent interview, saying 99% of the negative press coverage is because she’s a “Black woman.”
“You’re reaction to criticism… How much of this do you think has to do with the fact that you’re a woman, specifically a Black woman?” asked one reporter.
“About 99% of it,” said the Mayor. “Look at my predecessors? Woman and people of color are always held to a different standard. I’ve known that my whole life. Whoever can write what they want, what I’m doing is fighting for the residents of this city.”
“I was elected to disrupt the status quo. When you disrupt the status quo, you are going to have people criticize you,” she added.
