One Hundred and sixty two house Democrats voted nay on a bill that expressed disapproval of the so-called Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022, which was enacted by the council of the District of Columbia in October of last year. The act allows noncitizens who meet residency and other requirements to vote in local elections in the district.
The bill, which was introduced by Rep. James Cormer of Kentucky last month, ultimately passed 260 to 162 with 42 Democrats crossing party lines to vote with the Republican majority.
