By The FirstIn an outrageous turn of events, approximately two dozen homeless veterans have reportedly been ousted from New York hotels to accommodate migrants, as per the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation (YIT), a nonprofit entity dedicated to veteran welfare. The news was first reported in the New York Post, sparking a wave of outrage over the displaced vets.
A total of 20 veterans had been relying on these hotels for temporary housing, with 15 of them residing at the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh. According to reports, these veterans were abruptly given a mere day’s notice to vacate their temporary homes at the Crossroads Hotel in Orange County, New York, to make way for incoming migrants.
Sharon Toney-Finch, a representative from the YIT Foundation, voiced her concern about the situation, stating, “Over the last week, many of our homeless veterans that YIT provides services for were informed that they had to leave their temporary housing. Our veterans were housed in several hotels that were preparing to receive migrants from New York City. Thankfully, my team and I were able to scramble and find new temporary housing for these veterans.”
The news has sparked outrage from both sides of the political aisle, including from Democratic Congressman from New York Pat Ryan who called the move “bullshit.”
Republican Congressman Marc Molinaro added his voice, saying, “This is absolutely inexcusable and should not be happening in America. This is the result of incompetence and a lack of compassion. This won’t be tolerated.”
