By The FirstKyle Rittenhouse is calling for transparency from Twitter owner Elon Musk, questioning whether or not the social media company was actively censoring details of his case before and during his 2021 trial.
In November of 2021, Rittenhouse was acquitted of murder charges after fatally shooting two rioters and wounding anther during a riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Rittenhouse was the target of critical media coverage, and was even maligned as a “white supremacist” by high profile commentators.
Rittenhouse’s comments come on the same day that Nicholas Sandmann, another young conservative that was unfairly targeted by the media, asked for similar transparency about his case.
Sandmann was viciously attacked by several news outlets in 2019 after a video went viral purporting to show he and classmates from Covington Catholic High School harassing a Native America protester during the March for Life rally in Washingon DC. Upon further investigation, the media’s framing of the event turned out to be wildly inaccurate.
In 2020, Sandmann settled his lawsuits against CNN, NBC Universal and the Washington Post.
