California really needs a break on gas prices —but I guess Governor Gavin Newsom felt this took priority.
According to the Daily Wire, Newsom signed bill SB 245 into law this week, making it cheaper for women with private insurance to have an abortion.
“SB 245 prohibits health plans and insurers from imposing a co-pay, deductible, or other cost-sharing requirement for abortion and abortion-related services,” the governor’s office said in a press release.
“The legislation also prohibits health plans and insurers from imposing utilization management practices on covered abortion and abortion-related services,” the press release continued. “California is one of six states that require health insurance plans to cover abortion services, but out-of-pocket costs for patients can exceed a thousand dollars.”
“California already requires health insurance companies to cover abortions. But insurers often charge things like co-pays and deductibles that can add an average of $543 to the cost of a medication abortion and $887 to the cost of a procedural abortion, according to an analysis by the California Health Benefits Review Program,” ABC News reports.
