A bill banning the teaching or instruction of woke ideas and CRT has moved forward in the Florida Senate; the Education Committee voted 6-3 down party lines. The “Individual Freedom” bill was written and introduced by GOP Sen. Manny Diaz, Jr.
“The bill defines individual freedoms based on the fundamental truth that all individuals are equal before the law and have inalienable rights. Accordingly, the bill requires that instruction, instructional materials, and professional development in public schools be consistent with principles of individual freedom,” the summary states.
“Now we’re telling a company if they want to teach anti-discrimination, they want to teach diversity, they want to teach unconscious bias which is a course in the Florida Senate that they are potentially creating a cause of action from a disgruntled employee,” Democratic State Sen. Tina Scott Polsky argued.
Diaz defended his bill, saying, “the aim of this is to clearly have those discussions, to talk about the tough conversations and have it done in a manner where there’s an open dialogue.”
