Former President Donald Trump is speaking out on the news that Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, has reached a plea agreement with federal prosecutors.
Trump expressed his discontent during an interview with Fox News Digital, stating, “They gave him a traffic ticket and cleared everything up… It is a disgrace to the system, it is a disgrace to America, it is a very unfair situation, it is prosecutorial misconduct, and it is election interference — all wrapped up into one.”
The agreement, announced by U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss, entails Hunter Biden pleading guilty to two counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax. Additionally, Biden has agreed to enter into a pretrial diversion agreement concerning a separate charge of possessing a firearm while being an unlawful user of or addicted to a controlled substance.
Trump vehemently criticized the justice system and the FBI, labeling them as corrupt. He went on to claim that if a member of his own family were involved in a similar situation, they would likely be facing “hundreds of years” in prison.
According to Weiss’ office, in the absence of a plea agreement, Hunter Biden could face a maximum penalty of 12 months in prison for each tax charge and a maximum penalty of 10 years for the firearm charge. However, the plea deal still requires approval from a judge before it is finalized.
