In a massive outpouring of support, a GiveSendGo fundraising campaign for the legal defense of 24-year old college student, Daniel Penny, has raised one million dollars. The campaign was initiated by Raiser & Kenniff, P.C., the law firm representing Penny, who is facing a manslaughter charge related to the subway chokehold death of Jordan Neely in New York City.
Penny surrendered himself to the police on Friday.
His attorneys issued a statement on Thursday, expressing their belief in their client’s innocence, stating, “We are confident he will be fully absolved of any wrongdoing.”
The legal team went on to detail Penny’s actions on the day of the incident. They argued that Penny, a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, risked his own life and safety for the benefit of his fellow subway passengers, emphasizing that Neely’s death was an unforeseen and unintended result. They stated, “He risked his own life and safety, for the good of his fellow passengers. The unfortunate result was the unintended and unforeseen death of Mr. Neely.”
