Tesla CEO Elon Musk embarrassed BBC Tech reporter James Clayton during a recent interview about his acquisition and management of Twitter, after the reporter claimed there was a rise in “hate speech” on the platform–but couldn’t provide a single example.
Watch the video below:
After Clayton initially claimed hate speech was on the rise, Musk asked the reporter to, “describe a hateful thing” that’s he’d seen.
“You know, just content that will solicit a reaction, something that may include something is slightly racist, or slightly sexist – those kinds of things,” Clayton responded.
Musk followed up, “So you think if something is slightly sexist it should be banned? Is that what you’re saying?”
“No, I’m not saying anything,” Clayton said.
“Can you name one example?” Musk fired back.
After Clayton struggled to answer the question, Musk eventually said “Then I say sir, that you don’t know what you’re talking about.” Clayton asked “Really?” to which Musk replied, “Yes, because you can’t give me a single example of hateful content, not even one tweet, and yet you claimed that the hateful content was high. That’s false.”
“You just lied,” Musk later added.
