It’s the 20-year anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks this week – and the Biden administration has kind words for the Taliban.
“The Taliban have been cooperative in facilitating the departure of American citizens and lawful permanent residents on charter flights from HKIA,” the administration said in a statement. “They have shown flexibility, and they have been businesslike and professional in our dealings with them in this effort. This is a positive first step.”
Since the taking of Kabul last month, the Taliban has shot into a crowd of peaceful protestors, murdered a pregnant police officer, shot a woman for not wearing a burqa, obstructed American evacuations and whipped women protesting the new, all-male government.
“Businesslike and professional.”
House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy shared a bleak reminder on Twitter: “This September 11, the Taliban will be stronger than ever before. They will have a larger airforce than a third of NATO. They will be better armed than some of our closest allies. And it’s all thanks to President Biden.”
