New York Senator Chuck Schumer called on the United States to “transition to clean energy” this week, a move he claims will magically prevent forest fires in Canada.
“These Canadian wildfires are truly unprecedented, and climate change continues to make these disasters worse. We passed the Inflation Reduction Act to fight climate change, and we must do more to speed our transition to cleaner energy and reduce carbon in the atmosphere,” posted Schumer on Twitter.
The Senator’s comments come as out-of-control wildfires burn in northern Quebec. Weather patterns sent the smoke hundreds of miles south into New York City, Washington, Scranton, and other cities.
Conditions are expected to improve throughout the weekend.
