President Biden has just 7 days to evacuate thousands of people.
After the Taliban threatened consequences for an evacuation deadline extension, Biden has agreed to stick to the original date of August 31st. This decision comes after CIA Director William Burns met with Taliban leader Abdul Ghani Baradar in Kabul – and failed to make any headway.
Biden’s decision to stick to the date is against the wishes of G7 leaders.
According to the Daily Mail, “British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkle were among the leaders who urged Biden to keep boots on the ground longer. European leaders are worried there is not enough time to evacuate everyone who wants out.”
The Biden administration still doesn’t know exactly how many Americans or Afghan allies on the ground need evacuating.
