Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida got an earful from fellow Republican Rep. Mike Bost of Illinois today while giving his nominating speech for Rep. Jim Jordan.
Watch the ruckus below:
Although Bost is hard to understand over the commotion, the Illinois congressman seemed to take exception to Gaetz suggestion, that some McCarthy supports believe he earned the speakership by raising money for Republican election efforts.
“They believe Mr. McCarthy has earned the position of Speaker of the House because he raised half a billion dollars to get Republicans elected,” Gaetz told the packed chamber.
“This is not going to bring anyone…,” Bost could be heard screaming before other members began to call for order.
“Members are reminded not to engage in personalities against other members of the House,” said House Clerk Cheryl Johnson once the yelling had quieted down.
This is not the first time Bost has generated controversy with his outbursts. In 2012, while he was still a member of the Illinois House of Representatives, Bost famously flipped out during a debate over pension reforms.
“Enough! I feel like somebody trying to be released from Egypt! Let my people go!” Bost rages. “These damn bills that come out of here all the damn time come out here at the last second and I’ve got to try figure out how to vote for my people!”
