House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has expelled Reps. Adam Schiff, and Eric Swalwell from the House Intelligence Committee, a move Schiff is calling “petty, political payback.”
McCarthy explained his decision on Tuesday, justifying it by saying that Schiff “openly lied to the American people” when he was the chair of the intelligence committee during Trump’s Presidency.
“What did Adam Schiff do as the chairman of the intel committee?” McCarthy asked members of the press. “He used his position as chairman knowing he has information the rest of America does not, and lied to the American public. When a whistleblower came forward he said that he did not know the individual even know though his staff had met with them and set it up.”
McCarthy went on to slam Rep. Eric Swalwell as well, saying the California congressman “had a problem with a Chinese spy.”
Rep. Schiff responded to McCarthy’s decision, calling it “petty, political payback.”
